How do I get started with Altitude AI?
A quick overview of setting up your first project, importing files, and running your first AI task in Altitude.
Altitude AI is a generative AI platform built for industrial automation engineers. It helps you work faster with documents, technical drawings, PLC programs, robot code, and HMI documentation. This article walks you through the basics of getting up and running.
Installing and Logging In
Altitude consists of two parts: a Server App that runs on your network and a Client App that each user runs to connect to it. Your IT team or admin will handle the initial server setup. Once the server is running, install the Client App and point it to the server's IP address and port. You can see the server connection info in the top-right corner of the title bar.
Log in using your organization's Microsoft SSO credentials. This is the same login you use for Outlook, Teams, and other Microsoft 365 tools. If your organization has not yet configured SSO, contact your IT administrator or reach out to support@getaltitudeai.com.
Creating Your First Project
After logging in, you will land on the Home page. Click New to create a new project. Enter a project name, select your robot brand (if applicable), and choose your sharing permissions. Click Start and you will be taken into your new project.
Importing Your Reference Files
Once your project is created, navigate to the Files page. Click Manage > File > Import and select the documents you typically receive at the start of a project: customer specs, scope documents, emails, bills of materials, photos, or video walkthroughs. These files become the context that the AI uses when generating documents, analyzing drawings, or working with your code.
Running Your First AI Task
The fastest way to see Altitude in action is to ask the AI a question about one of your uploaded files. Select a file from the Files list, click Ask, type a question like "What are the safety requirements in this spec?" and click Ask with AI. The AI will search the file and display the answer on screen.
From here, you can explore the Documents, Drawings, PLC, Robot, and HMI pages depending on your workflow. Each page has specialized AI tools designed for that type of content.
Recommended Next Steps
Start with analysis tasks (asking questions, troubleshooting) before moving to document generation and code editing. This lets you build confidence in the AI's accuracy on your specific project files before using it for production work.
